We need your help
to receive $100,000 of state money!
The Details
Once restored, the Oviatt house will operate as a historic museum. A requirement of this goal is to provide an accessible restroom for our guests. In addition to a restroom, Oviatt House needs storage space to house our 1800s wagon used to demonstrate the story of Mason’s Secret Hayride.
Currently, the Oviatt house does not have water or sewer utilities. So cost of creating a restroom goes way beyond the restroom itself and includes access to water (most likely drilling a well) and sewage disposal (most likely installing a septic system).
Early in 2024 we applied for state funding to build a restroom and wagon storage barn. Thankfully the State of Ohio recognized our needs and awarded Oviatt House Inc. with $100,000 of capital budget funds!
But wait, there's a caveat!
In order to receive the state funds, Oviatt House must contribute 1/3 of the project cost.
To receive $100,000 from the State, Oviatt House must raise $50,000!

Sign our Supporters of History Board
Ongoing until the walls go up! For a donation of your choosing, you may add your signature, draw a picture, or leave a short sentiment on our Supporters of History board. The board will be built into the framework of an interior first floor wall before being covered over with drywall. Who may find it in the future? Contact Ken Brown at k[email protected] to arrange a time to leave your mark and become a literal part of the Oviatt House History! If you have a National Park Service Passport, be sure to bring it with you when you sign the board so that you may receive your Oviatt House stamp. All proceeds and donations will benefit the restoration of the 1836 Oviatt House, which is listed on the National Park Service’s Network to Freedom due to its ties to the Underground Railroad. |
